This book is the Turkish translation of The Entrepreneurial State, originally published by Anthem Press
The financial crisis of 2008, which was experienced at a global scale was the starting point of The Entrepreneurial State. This book was written as a reaction to the opinion that in the aftermath of the crisis, the only necessary step to re-initiate growth was to make cuts in public spending.
In contrast to those who are in the opinion that the state must be reduced in size, Mariana Mazzucato, one of the most influential economists of the world, believes that without strategic public investments of monumental dimension, it would have been impossible to produce smart products such as the Internet, GPS, and Siri. In addition to novelties in information technology, we would also be unable to develop renewable energy solutions that could kickstart the green revolution or radical medication to cure diseases.
In the Entrepreneurial State, Mazzucato aims to position the discussion concerning the role of the state in the economy in a new framework through a non-ideological approach, and to initiate a dynamic discussion concerning the role of public institutions in leading social and economic change.
Mazzucato’s comprehensive analysis uncovers a truth that is obscured by myth. No matter what you are being told, do not forget that it is not private companies but rather taxpayer money that finances the world’s most popular products from the iPhone to Google’s search engine.
Mariana Mazzucato is Professor in Economics of Innovation and Public Value at the University College London, and she is also the founder of the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose. The author is also the recipient of many significant prizes in economics, and the periodical New Republic has named her among “the three most important thinkers about innovation.”
