Parenting is a multi-faceted and complicated phenomenon that features universal as well as local characteristics; its effects on children cannot be readily observed and easily understood. Scholars and researchers have long endeavored to understand the role of parents in child development and socialization. This comprehensive volume presents both national and international studies, theoretical considerations, and the most current research findings.
Parenting: Theory and Research consists of fourteen articles authored by twenty-two researchers; each examines one aspect of parenting from the viewpoint of a specific scholarly discipline and includes discussions and analyses that raise new questions for future research. It serves as a reference work particularly for psychologists, but also for social scientists and education specialists, as well as general readers interested in the topic.
